Here is the dot-point version of the storyline for my epic super crazy RPG style video game:
- Year 1000 when Leif Eriksson discovered America he set up a colony there, who got along with the Indians and natives so well they became like blood-brother tribes
- At the end of the Viking age, after Ragnarök, with the death of the Gods, the only Viking civilization left was the one established in North America
- According to mythology, at the end of Ragnarök, Balder was released from Hel. He came back to Norway as a mortal who has sub-superhuman strength and full knowledge of who he was and what had happened. No amnesia shit.
- He can’t stand Scandinavia and after research finds out that Thor’s sons had left for the North American colony with Mjolnir, which they hid there, to keep safe immediately after Thor died- it is said that this is the only artifact that could resurrect the Aesir and Vanir Gods (his main motivation – he wants to reestablish the Old Viking civilization). So he leaves for North America expecting to find a strong Viking race there.
- Instead he finds that the Vikings had given up all hope with the death of their Gods and where pushed to becoming outcasts with their Indian friends in the mountains, hiding from the English who had taken over most of the rest of America (very Redcoat and angry at the Viking history of raiding England/Scotland etc)
- The Vikings are led by the love interest who is a descendent of Freyja. Her only motivation is to keep her people alive and quiet and out of the English’s way and the English make sure to attack their village often to show their dominance and scare the Vikings into submission.
- Balder is shocked by the community and angry at what the Vikings have become. He eventually becomes part of the colony and starts to build an army and to build awesome things like longboat steamtrains which could be used in an underground system in and through the mountains and the colony start getting stronger with the hope of a Viking God still existing – or maybe the colony has 2 minds, some agree with Balder and some with their sexy leader, so Balder has constant struggles there.
- The English near them meanwhile take notice of the developments and Balder and start kidnapping their people to question them about their activities. The Vikings leak info about Balder and his quest for the hammer, which their leader has kept secret from him. This alarms them and they go to the evil Governor who is not too bothered generally about the Vikings and more interested in gaining absolute power.
- When the governor hears about this, he realizes that an uprising could occur and sends the small army to go get a hold of the hammer
- The army goes to the village and threatens to burn it down unless the girl gives them the hammer, and since she thinks that it is simply a stupid relic and doesn’t believe in Norse Gods anymore, she does
- The English send someone to return the hammer to the Governor, and when Balder finds out what happened (he was doing a side quest at the time) he goes and in a mighty fury kills the English army singlehandedly. This makes the leader realize that he is a God and allows him to take over and helps him build an Army.
- Meanwhile, the governor uses the hammer for his own gain and summons the evil creatures from Ragnarok to fight in his army.
- Balder realizes that they have been summoned and uses another relic (say, Freyja’s necklace) to summon the Aesir/Vanir gods. Maybe they get summoned but appear as semi-normal humans too – and maybe they tell Balder that he has to return with them to Asgard when the war is over
- In the end, both sides get their armies together and have a massive showdown, Ragnarok 2
- Balder has to leave behind his lady to return to Asgard with the rest of the gods but they give him the choice – to give up his powers and stay on earth with her as a mortal, or to return with them to Asgard.
